What Is Students First Education Savings Account (ESA)?
Iowa's Students First ESA is open to all Iowa K-12 students regardless of income. Funds equal the state's per-pupil funding amount and are deposited into an Odyssey account. Tuition and fees must be paid first — remaining funds can then go toward tutoring and other qualified expenses.
What Can Iowa ESA Funds Cover?
- Tutoring and cognitive skills training (after tuition is covered)
- Tuition and fees at an accredited nonpublic school
- Textbooks, curriculum, and instructional software
- Educational therapies for students with disabilities
- Standardized tests and AP exam fees
How to Apply
This is a separate process from the ESA application itself.
Applications are valid for one school year and must be renewed annually.
Once tuition is paid through Odyssey, remaining balance can fund tutoring and materials.
